A long and cool ripening season on the Bellarine Peninsula allowed pristine fruit to fully ripen, providing wines with great flavour and length. Our pinot gris was hand harvested on the 3rd of March and gently whole bunch pressed and left to settle overnight. The juice was then racked directly into older French hogs heads where natural fermentation occurred. The wine was left on light ferment lees for 6 months to add depth and complexity prior to racking and bottling on the 20th of October 2017.
This gris has a light straw colour with a green hue and brilliant clarity. The bouquet shows pear and musk aromas which are complexed by anise spice and hints of lime and flint. This Kilgour gris flows onto the palate with gusto, showing generosity and warmth where pears and peach flavours combine with complexing nougat lees characters. The palate is framed with fine lime acidity which gives length and drive.
Enjoy this wine now or into 2020 with food such as Portarlington mussels in white wine, pan fried whiting or on its own.
